inspiration } color combinations

I’d have to say for the most part I’m a neutral girl. I do love touches of color and have moments when I want to be bright and bold. For the most part though, muted tones are a great go-to for home + fashion… start with a great backdrop and then add color with an accessory (pillow, art, necklace, shoes). Because of this, I love this first combination of colors.

With spring on my mind, this next color palette gets me in the mood for the beach, sun, and warmer weather. I love these colors in small amounts, but some people can pull off color, color, color and I love it.

On another note, I want to leave you with this quote. I just love it. Such the perfect reminder that every part of life is necessary to get us to where we are and where we are headed. Happy Thursday ~e

off to a great start here in 2012 and ready for the best year yet ;) lots of custom work to be done and most certainly excited about the designing of a new collection for Arboreal. It’s hard to believe that the National Stationery Show is right around the corner again! more on that in the next few months…

i stumbled upon these while searching through some imagery of peonies for a new bridal job. i love that this artist has taken photographs in nature and digitally manipulated them in a way that they become very graphic, yet somehow still soft. this impresses me… you?

It has been such a busy fall and start to winter and there is lots to share… I am so happy to start with one of the most creative, caring and in-love couples I have been around in a while. Meet Madeline + Josh. Prepare yourself for one of the most beautiful Tennessee farm weddings I’ve seen in a while (including a llama… yep, it’s true). I was lucky enough to meet this couple and work together on all of their paper goods from the save the date down to the programs and favor tags. Working with two creatives (an interior designer + an architect) was refreshing – I love the fact that these two cared about every detail just as much as I did! Some of the highlights… letterpress, foil stamping, antique stamps + white calligraphy.

a shopping weekend
Published 2011-11-30 by Erin Pfister
If you are in the southeast, you are in luck this weekend. Arboreal is part of two great events that you don’t want to miss! First up, for you near Atlanta… Tinsel and Twine Pop Up shop located at Westside Provisions District. There is an kickoff celebration, tomorrow, December 1 from 6-9pm, featuring live music by Smokey’s Farmland Band and spirits by American Spirit Whiskey. The shopping hours are: THURSDAY 12/01: 10am – 9pm, FRIDAY 12/02: 10am – 7pm, SATURDAY 12/03: 10am – 7pm, and SUNDAY 12/04: 12pm – 5pm.

And for you in Nashville, be sure to stop by Porter Flea in East Nashville. There is an amazing line up of talented artists — selling clothes, jewelry, art, furniture, and of course, paper goods! Lots to do this weekend… I do hope to see you!

I have to admit – I kind of love the come back of charms. How great are these miniature guys? Grab a chain and choose either one or several to make a personal statement. I know this makes me such a paper + printing nerd, but I am a huge fan of the letterpress letter that was actually used during the printing process… Wouldn’t this also be the perfect gift idea for the holidays?

starting the celebrations...

So, I’m definitely that person that gets really excited about the holidays. Christmas music? Yes, please… I mean, not quite yet. Thanksgiving is upon us (crazy, right?) and deserves it’s day in the spotlight. I’m going to start mine racing in Nashville’s Boulevard Bolt then move on to feasting all day. I’m an eater and not afraid if you all know it ;) But, back to jingle bells and holiday music — join Arboreal and many other local vendors at Social Graces this Saturday from 4-8. It’s time to start celebrating!

Anthro window :: harvest
Published 2011-11-10 by Erin Pfister

Are you thinking of spiced cider, cozy fires and warm tights? It’s harvest season and the Anthropologie windows are full of gourds and lots of great color. The visual teams added to the natural beauty by dying, stitching and painting each gourd to perfection. Then they were all hung by wrapped lines of bright color. Perfection. What does your local store front look like?

It’s officially soup season… this colder weather makes me want to curl up by a fire and I think soup perfectly fits into that scenario. Right? One of my new favorite food blogs is spoon fork bacon. Besides the fact they have beautiful food styling, I love that they often focus on seasonal recipes so you can go to your local farmers market and make something with what is fresh.
I just make their recipe for Creamy Roasted Tomato & Basil Soup this week and love it. Enjoy some for yourself!
Makes 7 cups
Ingredients:
1 ½ lbs Roma tomatoes, sliced lengthwise
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium yellow onion, diced
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, minced
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 cups basil leaves, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons dried basil
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups low sodium chicken broth
salt and pepper to taste
2/3 cup heavy cream
garnish:
fried basil
goat cheese, crumbled.
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
2. Spread tomato halves onto a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Roast tomatoes for about 1 hour.
4. While tomatoes are in the oven, melt the butter in a large pot over medium-high heat.
5. Add onion and sauté for 5 minutes.
6. Stir in the garlic and thyme and sauté for another 5 minutes.
7. Add crushed tomatoes, basils and sugar. Season with salt and pepper.
8. Stir the mixture and reduce the heat to medium or medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes, covered.
9. Pour broth and roasted tomatoes into the pot. Season with salt and pepper.
10. Continue to simmer soup, covered, for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
11. Carefully pour soup into a blender and blend until smooth.
12. Pour soup back into the pot and stir in the cream until fully incorporated.
13. Simmer the soup for 3 minutes before ladling into bowls.
14. Top each soup with a sprinkle of goat cheese and fried basil and serve hot.
